Making a Difference

Welcome to the official website of the McMinn County Sheriff's Department. This site is designed to make McMinn County more accessible to both current and future residents.

McMinn County is located in southeastern Tennessee along the I-75 and U.S. 411 corridors. With a population of 51,000 people, the 430 square mile county is considered rural. Though rural, the county has a significant amount of industry with new businesses choosing to locate here at a record pace. Notable industries such as Mayfield Dairy Farms, Bowater Newsprint, Johnson Controls, J.M. Huber Corporation, DENSO Manufacturing, Heil Company, John's Manville, Thomas and Betts and Texas Hydraulics. We also boast a transportation network that includes a major interstate, two U.S. highways, numerous Tennessee state highways, a navigable river, an excellent airport and two major rail lines.

It is the mission of the McMinn County Sheriff's Department to ensure the safety of the public, the employees of this institution and the inmates confined therein. We do this by managing high risk offenders, including those sentenced to life or death. We are committed to fulfilling our mission with all employees working together for a common goal. Creativity, flexibility and responsiveness are encouraged by our entire staff. We respect each staff member, as well as those we serve through fair, ethical and courteous treatment. As law enforcement officers, our fundamental duty is to serve mankind, to safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation; the peaceful against violence or disorder; and the respect the constitutional rights of all persons to liberty, equality and justice.
